Everyone loves an origin story. It helps us with understanding the who’s and the why’s. Perhaps in business, the origin story matters more.
In some respects I have two origin stories, you can take your pick of which you prefer. The first being in 1990 with the brutal rape and murder of a twelve year old girl, in my home town when I was just 16 years old. I would end up having known one of her killers. What I didn’t know then, was that I had begun profiling and ultimately identifying one of four men who would be found guilty and serve life sentences for the murder.
That experience taught me two things. That I didn’t need to pursue a career in law enforcement to solve the problems of the world and, that I had a talent for such things.
By the late 1990’s I had worked other murder investigations, profiled and resolved numerous stalker cases, and began work in high threat level Executive Protection for a Fortune 500 Company. In the weeks following 9/11 I abandoned a promising corporate career to start my own firm, Intelligence Services, llc in 2002.
The work would take me from Central America to Pakistan and into India. Whether it was a private client who needed sensitive items recovered, finding a loved one who had abandoned their family, negotiating the return of a kidnap victim or profiling dangerous individuals. The world taught me that if you are good at what you do, there is always work for you.
And there is, always work to be done here.
